DUMMIES VERSION FOR INTERIOR DESIGN

My lifestyle
Think, "My home is one of the Greatest Investments in my life".
Think, "My Lifestyle"
Think, "What is the purpose of the room"

Ask yourself these lifestyle questions:

What is the architectural style of my home?
If the home is Spanish, the interior will need different consideration than if it is Italian, California Ranch, or Frank Lloyd Wright.

What is the quality of my home?

How does the quality compare to other homes in my neighborhood?
Another words, is the quality of the interior at least as good as your neighbors? You may want to consider upgrading your flooring to a hard surface floor like Hardwood or Laminate.

Do I like to entertain often?
If so, what kind of impression do I want my guests to receive?
You can WOW your friends and neighbors with the selection we have at Amigo’s Flooring.

Which rooms in the house do I want to make beautiful?
You may want to consider a different floor for the Kitchen and Dining than you would for the bedrooms.

What flooring type is on the floor right now?
What do I like/dislike about the existing flooring? Make sure you don’t make the same mistake twice.

Which type of subfloor do you have?
Is your subfloor concrete or raised foundation (Plywood)?

Do I like to cook often?
If so, eventually spills will occur. Think style but think practical.

The bottom line: How do I want the room to look?

The Living Situation
Think about the people who live in the home and any potential guests you or the other people who live in the home may have.

These days more and more people of all ages want to live the American dream of a better lifestyle. Younger people for example are more knowledgeable about investing and home ownership than ever before and these people place great importance in their living environment.

Kids and pets!
Think about the age of your children who live with you and the lifestyle they have. What type of pets do you have? Homes with a small cat may have different needs than homes with a few big dogs.

Be Creative and have Fun!
What should the color of the walls be? The ceilings? What type of furniture will add to the overall look I desire? For the most impressive look, choose flooring color which contrasts your cabinets, furniture and walls.

It’s just me
It’s me and my friend
It’s just the two of us
It’s our Family

The Living Areas and Sleeping areas
Homes can be divided into two separate and distinct areas. Living areas, and sleeping areas.

Living Areas
This is where you live and enjoy life in your home and where you spend the most of your time while you are awake. The Living Areas include the Entry, Staircase, Family room, Living room, Dining room, Great room, Bar, Breakfast area, Library, Game room, Patios, Closets and Powder rooms.

Other Living Areas
Kitchen

The Sleeping Areas
This includes the Bedrooms, Closets, and Bathrooms.

Interior Surfaces in the Living Areas
Hardwood Flooring
There is nothing like the look and beauty of a Real Hardwood Floor and it’s the only floor you can make look brand new after 20 years. Hardwood Flooring looks great with most other surfaces. Real Hardwood is great anywhere in your entire home. Your initial investment may be more than other flooring types but the overall enjoyment you get from your home and lifestyle is well worth the extra dollars invested. Amigo’s has the latest cutting-edge styles and colors made exclusively for Amigo’s including Exotic Hardwoods and Bamboo.

Hardwood and Your Health
Unlike Carpet, Hardwood is very easy to maintain and because you actually can see the dust, you can easily remove with a dust mop. Therefore, you lead a healthier lifestyle. Hardwood is the flooring of choice for allergy sufferers.

Laminate Flooring
If you budget won’t allow a real Hardwood Floor, go Laminate. Laminates look like wood or tile and wear like iron. The latest technology makes laminates an affordable, practical and beautiful choice for any room in your home with the same health benefits as a real hardwood floor. There are about 50 manufacturers of Laminate Flooring and only a few pass Amigo’s quality standard. Amigo’s Carry an exclusive line of the best Laminates in the world… Period!

Benefits of Laminates
It will never fade or stain. Laminates never need to be sanded, re-finished, polished or waxed. You can even put out a lit cigarette on the surface and it won’t leave a mark. Installation is easy for the do-it-yourselfer. The Bottom line: The floor will look newer, longer than any other flooring type.

The Warranty- It’s how long it will look new that counts
Manufacturers often give a "sounds too good to be true" warranty and when you read the fine print your instinct often proves to be right. If a manufacturer gives you 150 year warranty… who cares? If I live to be 150 I hope I don’t have the same floor. The yarns on the cheapest carpet in the world will be fully intact 1000 years from now in the landfill. It would look terrible but it will still exist. So it’s not how long it will last. It’s how long it will look new. Laminates will look new longer than any other flooring type. The average American moves every 5 years. The average Californian moves every 2 years. So choose a flooring type, style, and color to fit your lifestyle and home. Generally speaking, all products Amigo’s carry guarantee that the flooring will not simply fall apart with normal use. All Laminate manufacturers guarantee that the floor will not stain or fade.

The Do’s and Don’t of Flooring and Carpet

Do:
Install Harwood Flooring anywhere in the house, including the stairs.
Install Laminate Flooring anywhere in the house, including the stairs.
Install Tile in the Entry, Bathrooms, patios, and fireplace.

Don’t:
Install Carpet or tile in areas where you prepare food or on the staircase.

Areas where you Prepare Food
Your Kitchen area requires special consideration because this is where you prepare your food. Even the most careful preparers will occasionally spill food on the floor.
Not recommended is anything porous like marble and travertine. In fact, any kind of tile would not be recommended due to the fact that there are grout lines and even if the grout lines are sealed, someone will be constantly on their hands and knees scrubbing those grout lines and that simply doesn’t fit into your lifestyle.

Do
Real Harwood Flooring or Laminate Flooring in the Kitchen.

Don’t
Carpet or Tile the kitchen floor

The Sleeping Areas of your home
This includes the Bedrooms, Closets, and Bathrooms.
(Picture of woman in bedroom)
"When I get out of bed I love stepping onto a soft warm Carpet"

Bedrooms get only very light walking traffic so you can put anything you want in these areas of your home. However, keep in mind tile tends to be a little cold to walk on. To maximize the value of your home and keep up with the latest trends it is recommended that you stick with Hardwood, Laminates, or Carpet in the Bedroom areas.

The do’s and Don’ts of Bedroom areas

Do
Real Hardwood Flooring, Laminate Flooring, or Carpet in the Bedrooms.

Don’t
Tile or Vinyl on the Bedroom
